Car Window Replacement

Good News! Car window replacement doesn't have to be a big deal. In some cases you can do it yourself, if you're so inclined, and if you hire a pro it can be fairly inexpensive.
Car window replacement is not extremely difficult, not nearly as tricky as one of those wraparound windshields, because car windows generally speaking are flat.
Hire a Pro or Replace your Car Window Yourself?
First, if you're hiring a professional service, check out the prices of some of these suppliers above, because there is quite a bit of variation in pricing. Specialty stores which focused exclusively on auto glass will sometimes have the very best deals. Other times local body shop may do better.
But another possibility is handling the car window replacement yourself, if you're handy that way. It's not too difficult to do if you don't mind spending a little time and if you have some tools.
For example let's say perhaps that your car was burglarized by some nitwit ripping off your radio. Or perhaps there was a little fender bender which turned into a window smasher. Perhaps the cold breezes of Autumn now blow through your control cockpit as you motorize down the freeway.
No problem, Bob.
A bit of research on the net and you can uncover an attractive market price for a replacement window, and if you are anywhere near a wrecking yard (car-recycling center) you might find a replacement window in good condition available for cheap.
What will you need?
You'll need a tarp, some tools, and a vehicle repair manual for the model of car you drive. The manual should give you instructions to remove the door panel, and you'll find this plastic or composite weather barrier under the door panel. You'll need to carefully remove this and carefully remove any chunks of glass -- careful! Sharp! -- Then use the shop vac to clear out more visible and invisible glass shards.
Install Mr. New Car Window
It's difficult to give exact instructions here, because many cars very quite a bit, but the objective is to finesse the replacement window into place. Do avoid trying to bend the glass. It doesn't work.
Make sure the new window goes up and down. Make sure nothing is blocking it within its track.
Presto! New window!
